Why should I choose Krav Maga Self-Protect?

Krav Maga Self-Protect (KMS) is realistic and effective because it is one of the most modern self-defence systems in existence and is attuned to societal and legal norms. De-escalation and a sense of proportion are emphasized in each lesson, because in front of a judge the roles of victim and offender can quickly become reversed.

We assure an optimal training atmosphere for our students. Aggressive people and behaviour are not welcome.

How is Krav Maga Self-Protect taught?

As Krav Maga Self-Protect (KMS) is purely a system of self-defence, its emphasis is on technique and not on fitness or sports.

The classes are divided into basic (beginner) and advanced levels (see also the FAQ concerning the levels), with women and men training together.

Many techniques are learned in pairs, with a training partner. You practice strikes of maximum force on large kick shields in order to train to full effect. With increasing experience and skill level, the exercises will become freer and less regimented. However, the roles of the attacker and the defender are always clearly assigned.

This is also true of the weekly knife defence training, where only the attacker is armed with a knife, whereas the defender is unarmed. Thus, we do not train knife fighting (where both would be armed) but pure self-defence against an attacker armed with a knife or a knife-like object.

On the advanced level, techniques for defending and striking are combined piece by piece into training series, which enables each student to develop his or her own self-defence style. Head gear and boxing gloves are worn to avoid injury.

What do the levels Basic 1 to Advanced 3 mean?

According to the Krav Maga Self-Protect training curriculum, there are six levels for students: 3 beginner levels, Basic 1-3, and three advanced levels, Advanced 1-3. There are examinations for each of the six levels.

The regular evening classes are based on the training programme for the respective levels. Before being allowed to train in a higher level class, students are therefore required to take and pass the examination of the previous level.

Beginners without an exam can take part in all Basic 1 classes and also in all classes labelled "All" in the schedule. Switching to the Basic 2-3 class is first possible after passing the Basic 1 exam (requires at least 48 classes of training).

Special Courses and Weekend basic seminars are open to all those interested, including non-students.

Are there examinations or competitions?

Several levels exist in Krav Maga Self-Protect (KMS):

  • Basic 1 - 3
  • Advanced 1 - 3
  • Assistant Instructor
  • Instructor
  • Advanced Instructor

There is an exam for each of the levels. A minimum of 48 lessons must lie between two exams. The exams are carried out according to the examination programmes set by the Krav Maga Self-Protect Association Switzerland. In order to take an exam, the student must possess a vaild Krav Maga Licence. The regular evening classes at the 2protect Center Zurich are based on the training programme for the respective levels. Before being allowed to train in a higher level class, students are therefore required to take and pass the examination of the previous level.

There are no competitions in Krav Maga Self-Protect (KMS).

What are the costs?

The costs remain reasonable. In addition to the regular membership you must purchase the KMS Passport (Fr. 10.00, a one-time fee),  as well as a yearly licence (Fr. 70.00). The minimal equipment required consists of:

  • KMS T-Shirt
  • KMS Trousers
  • Groin guard (men)
  • Breast guard (women)
  • Boxing gloves

The items can be purchased through our school.

Where is the 2protect Center Zurich located?

The 2protect Center Zurich is located near the Altstetten train station and can be reached by several train or bus lines (e.g. S3, S9, S12, S15, long-distance trains or bus 31, 78, 80, 89 and others). It is only a three-minute walk from there to the 2protect Center. Click here for a map.

Is there a warm-up?

Yes. At the beginning of each training session, we warm our bodies up to the proper "working temperature". Warm-ups are also important in order to avoid injury. Therefore, all participants should arrive to the trainings on time.

I have a criminal conviction. Can I still learn Krav Maga Self-Protect?

If you have been convicted of a violent or a capital crime, you may NOT train Krav Maga Self-Protect with us. If you have any other convictions, please call us to enquire about this. We reserve the right to ask for an extract from police records at any time.
